I'm not too sure what happened with this item. I purchased it as part of the renovation of the fuel system. But I've no idea where I got the part number from, unless it was mixed up by the supplier. The part I should have ordered was NRC8017. I ended up re-using the old spill pipe (which turned out to be in good condition anyway). So I'm left with this item.
I think it's for a later model, perhaps one with an in-tank pump. I see it's listed on one website as a "fuel pipe spill return to tank 90/110 v8 upto in tank pump for Defender 90/110". However, if you've searched the web for this particular part number and ended up on this page, you already know that this is the part you need!
Genuine part, Catalogue number NRC8917. Still in original packaging, although I opened the packet to take the photo.
